A captioner takes the spoken words down on a steno machine. The code from the steno machine is instantaneously translated into English and is sent to a viewing screen or monitor.
The whole process typically takes a couple of seconds, and enables people that are deaf and hard of hearing to have access to and to be a part of an event or program.
In a Christian setting, captioning allows people with hearing loss to be able to “hear” and allows them to educate themselves in the Christian way of life. Captions can also be integrated with video, and both captions and the video appear on a viewing screen.
James 3:17-18
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”
